South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics in partnership with South Korean wireless telecom operator, SK Telecom, will be showcasing new telecommunications technology called '3D Beamforming', at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 to be held in Barcelona, Spain, next week.
The new technology was developed to support high frequency bands, making use of millimeter wave frequencies (over 60 GHz), which is much higher than today's mobile and Wi-Fi frequencies. Samsung and SK Telecom said the technology is a major benefit for transmitting high speed data.

At the MWC 2015, they will demonstrate a 7.55 Gbps data transmission by integrating the technology with 'Full Dimension MIMO', which uses multiple antennas to improve the bandwidth.
"Samsung Electronics has built the most advanced 4G LTE telecommunications infrastructure in the world by working closely with other Korean companies," said Cheun Kyung-Whoon, Samsung's team leader of IoT solution.
"We will continue to lead the global mobile industry by focusing on the development of 5G technologies through strengthened cooperation with our partners."
"SK Telecom is delighted to demonstrate the key 5G technology with Samsung Electronics," said Choi Jin-sung, SK Telecom's head of corporate research and development center.
"We will make ceaseless efforts to develop innovative network technologies that will lead us to the new era of 5G marked by infinite possibilities."
Other companies such as Finnish communications and information technology firm Nokia Networks announced it will also demonstrate new 5G technologies for the Internet of Things (IoT) at MWC 2015.
The Finnish company last week also unveiled its new radio cloud network architecture in collaboration with SK Telecom. According to Nokia, the new architecture is a tremendous platform to prepare for 5G core and radio.
