Google and BlackBerry have partnered for a new Android for Work project.

Google has announced a new platform for Android to be more secure in the workplace, and is partnering with mobile rival BlackBerry to make this happen.

Named 'Android at Work', the platform essentially splits a device between home and office, allowing the user to have one device for personal use and office work.

Known as BYOD (bring your own device), Android at Work offers the additional security and cost efficiency enterprise wants without having to own two devices or run two separate platforms.

The concept is similar to BlackBerry's own BB 10 that offers messaging and other applications with a split between personal and business contacts.

Android at Work apps will be labeled with an orange briefcase and will have 'Work' at the front of the name, i.e. Work Chrome, Work Gmail, Work Drive.

Google will also offer a tailored version of the Google Play apps store. It will offer apps from SAP, Citrix, Samsung, Sony, Box and Adobe, amongst others. Users will be able to order in bulk and send to an entire company of devices.

Android at Work will be available in the upcoming months along with the 'Work' apps for the platform. Google has not made any incentives for businesses to necessarily go with Google over Apple, and it has not starred one device as an excellent purchase for organizations.

The push into enterprise comes a few months after Apple announced a partnership with IBM, launching 20 business applications for all types of professions.

Apple has also been upping security on iOS to make enterprise more interested. Samsung has a similar interest in enterprise and launched the KNOX security platform to interest governments and businesses to buy Android phones.

Google and Apple both launched special encryption on mobile devices to make the devices more secure from government surveillance or wiretapping.
