Now, anyone can witness a stunning alien sunset on Mars. NASA released a new video of what it looks like when the Sun sets on the Red Planet.

Strangely enough, a Martian sunset isn't red or orange but is surprisingly bluish.

NASA posted a Vine video early this week created from timelapse photos taken by the Opportunity rover since 2003. Sunsets on Earth are reddish or orange-y. It's indeed strange to see a blue sunset on the Red Planet.

NASA explains this phenomenon occurs when fine dust particles in the thin atmosphere of Mars tend to produce a reddish sunset. The dust, however, apparently scatters blue light in the forward direction, creating a bluish effect on the sky near the setting sun.

NASA studies how different the Martian sunsets are by capturing images of the Sun and the sky to figure out how high dust settles into the thin atmosphere. This dust eventually forms clouds made from dust and ice. Naturally, the Sun on Mars also looks smaller than on Earth as it's farther away in the solar system.

Another unique feature of a Martian sunset apart from its color is that its twilight glow lasts longer on the Red Planet than on Earth, or for about two hours before the sun finally sets. This is caused by a very dusty atmosphere that scatters light on the side of Mars facing the sun.

NASA scientists also say a bluish Martian sunset can be seen on Earth right after volcanic eruptions that scatter plumes of dust particles high into the atmosphere.

Apart from the Opportunity rover that brought the stunning new video of a Martian sunset, NASA's Curiosity rover also released a new selfie, which is a mosaic of images using its camera held from its robotic arm.

To date, Curiosity is now exploring the Mojave area of Mount Sharp amd is still continuing to search, drill and obtain samples for chemical analysis.
