LG will soon market a tracking bracelet called KizON that helps parents keep tabs on the whereabouts of their children as well as their activities.

KizON caters to families with pre-school and primary school children.

LG, the second largest electronic company in South Korea, is not the first to announce a child tracking device. Start-up firms like Tinitell, Filip, and KMS Solutions have released similar products.

KizON has a battery life of up to 36 hours but has to be charged every night. An alert will be forwarded to a parent once its battery is below 25%.

In addition, KizON is also compatible with both 2G and 3G cellular networks. Children can make a call using KIzON to a programmed contact number by pressing a front button.

The same button can also be pressed to accept calls from pre-configured numbers.

In the event the wearer is unable to take the call, the wristphone will automatically turn-on its microphone within 10 seconds. The microphone will let the caller listen to what his kid is up to.

LG said the launch of KizON is scheduled for this week. KIzON will be marketed in North America and Europe in September.

Some experts are skeptical of the device, however. Peter Bradley, director of services at the charity Kidscape, said "A parent should never solely rely on a device alone. This will only give a false sense of security."
