University With the most Potential, No Mainland University in the List

Britain "Times Higher Education" Magazine published THE 100 Under 50 2013 world rankings (also called the world's most potential university rankings). South Korea's Pohang University of Science and Technology heads the list. All the four universities in Hong Kong and five universities from Taiwan are in the rankings, while none of the mainland's universities is listed in the rank.

Korean Universities occupies 2 positions in this year's top three places. The number one university "Pohang University of Science and Technology was founded in 1986. It is its second time to win the honor of world's most potential university. Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology is in the third place, rises two places compared with its performance in last year.
"Times Higher Education" official website quotes words from the editor of Times higher Education Rankings, Phil Baty, South Korea's first and third place spots make it the "star" of this year's list.
École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne from Switzerland is in the second place. Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is in the forth place, which falls one place from last year. The subsequent ranking in order is University of California, Irvine, US, Maastricht University, Netherlands, University of York, UK, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, Université Pierre et Marie Curie, France, and Université Paris-Sud, France.
The 100 Under 50 rankings is based on 13 indicators, covering university's creativity, teaching quality, research achievement, the number of paper be quoted, the global reputation and so on.
"Times Higher Education" official website states that this rankings provides a new perspectives on the concept of "famous university". In today's world, many people pay much attention more on accumulated reputation gathered from centuries of year more than on current academic achievement. "Traditional elite university can not keep staying on their hundreds of history and tradition and rely too much on their past reputations", said Baty, "a number of dynamic universities are emerging quickly and begin to challenge their crowns."
