The SK wristphone is capable of saving a total of 30 different contacts that can be stored by parents. Numbers that are not programmed will be considered spam and will be blocked for security purposes.
With SK Telecom’s wristphone, parents can also ensure their children’s security through an SOS button. When pressed, the button will send an alert to parents or the nearest police station.
Analysts said SK Telecom's wristphone can't be called a smartwatche because it functions through an operating system used for standard mobile phones.
Similar devices have been launched globally but were not well received by consumers. SK Telecoms hopes to buck this trend.
LG Electronics, the second-largest electronics company next to Samsung, will market its own version of a wristphone called KizON. This device can only store 10 contacts but will automatically answer calls after 10 seconds.
Children as well as the elderly are ideal customers for wearable technologies, according to LG.
