Google Now Enables Voice Commands on Devices Running Android 5.0

Google Now

Google Now has been updated, including 30 new cards from third-party apps.

The latest Google Search app for the Android 5.0 or Lollipop device will enable its users to activate and deactivate the camera's LED or flashlight, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi using voice commands.

The procedure starts by tapping the search button of the Google Search app or using the "OK, Google" command.

Afterwards, you can toggle your Bluetooth on or off, for example by saying, "OK, Google, turn on Bluetooth" or "OK, Google, turn off Bluetooth."  The user will receive an audio reply confirming what action has been undertaken.

These simple voice commands are very helpful if your phone is out of reach but within hearing distance of your voice. And also, why bother using fingers to do the work when you can simply tell the phone what to do.

Some users are greatly relieved the flashlight can be toggled with a voice command. Some phone companies have removed the flashlight toggle on the notification drop-downs on some of their latest models.

A card from Google Now will appear on the screen to tell what service is currently being toggled.  If the wrong item is shown or you simply want to cancel it, you can replace the toggled item by simply touching the card.

Voice commands on Android devices are already available on the older versions. But their capabilities are quite limited and some of the voice commands can only work with the use of third party applications such as the Commandr.

This latest Google Now service covers the Bluetooth, flashlight, and Wi-Fi.  Shortcuts to other Android features like Airplane Mode, GPS or NFC can still be toggled using voice command.

The latest voice commands are only available in Android 5.0 Lollipop powered devices.

Android devices running on the 4.0 or KitKat version running the latest Google Search app can still use voice commands to bring up the shortcuts.
