The news was made public by Huga Barra, Xiaomi's global vice-president, who tweeted, "Xiaomi is coming to India! First device is Mi 3 and we'll be selling it for Rs. 14,999. Pre-registration starts July 15."
Mi 3 is a powerful mobile phone equipped with a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. It will be available for Indian customers Rs 14,999 ($250). This price is slightly higher than the phone's price in Singapore, which is $239.
Analysts said there are many good reasons for Xiaomi's to launch the Mi 3 in India.
Xiaomi also believes it's better for it to start with a product that can compete well against other established brands such as Chinese handsets Giaonee and Elife S5.5.
Xiaomi said its Redmi Note or Redmi 1S sold out very quickly causing inventory problems. On the other hand, the Mi 3 has been in production for quite a while, making it easier for Xiaomi to meet the demands of the Indian market.
Xiaomi's devices such as the Redmi Note and the Mi 3 are already quite popular in several countries.
"There is still a lot more to be shared" said a spokesperson from Xiaomi.
Xiaomi, Inc. is one of China's biggest electronics companies. It designs, develops and sells smartphones, mobile apps and consumer electronics.
