Scarlett Johansson Defends John Travolta

Scarlett Johansson defended John Travolta after the veteran actor was criticized for giving the Avengers actress a kiss on the cheek at the 2015 Academy Awards ceremony.

According to Johansson, there was nothing really wrong with what Travolta did and while she looked rather unhappy as he stole a kiss on the Oscars red carpet, Johansson found it a "pleasure to be greeted by him" after many years of not seeing him.

"The image that is circulating is an unfortunate still-frame from a live-action encounter that was very sweet and totally welcome," she explained.

Johansson went on saying that the still image did not show what happened next afterwards.

Johansson also lashed out at the media for misrepresenting her and Travolta.

"Yet another way we are misguided, misinformed and sensationalized by the 24-hour news cycle," she said.

"I haven't seen John in some years and it is always a pleasure to be greeted by him," she continued.

During the Oscars red carpet, Scarlett was posing before photographers, when Travolta suddenly grabbed her by the waist and gave her a kiss on the cheek.

The Captain America: The Winter Soldier actress, perhaps, was initially surprised and reacted half-heartedly to what the Hairspray actor did, which to Travolta, was just a friendly gesture.

Scarlett is slated to appear on the Avengers: Age of Ultron together with Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner.

The 30-year-old Johansson called the veteran actor "a class act" defending that "there is nothing strange, creepy or inappropriate about John Travolta."

Later that night, Travolta punned himself at the Oscar's broadcast following the infamous flub of Idina Menzel's name wherein he was seen in the rehearsed bit stroking the Frozen actress' face.

"I loved finishing it. It came full circle," he explained in an interview with Vanity Fair.

"I loved it because it means I come back [to the Oscars] next year."
