A group of 11 schoolmates, aged between 10 and 14, beat an eight-year-old boy to death in Hebei but the police allegedly downplayed the case by saying the suspects just wanted to have a good time because they felt bored.
The Beijing Times reported that the boy, identified as Xiao Hui, a student at Baishui Central Primary School, died of severe brain injuries inside the 251 Hospital in Zhangkjiakou City.

The newspaper quoted a police squad captain, identified only by his surname Liu, as saying that the boys decided to beat Xiao in order to occupy their day. The police said the boys were bored while gathering in a square in Baishu Village.
The group saw Xiao and decided to beat him. He was dragged to the nearby Yongningzhai Village, and was beaten in a square.
Still unsatisfied, the schoolmates dragged Xiao into a cornfield where he lost consciousness.
When the group saw that the boy was unconscious, they then dragged Xiao to the roadside, said the police squad captain.
An anonymous caller alerted the police about the presence of an unconscious boy lying along the roadside. Responding policemen then brought the victim to the nearby hospital.
"I was tongue-tied when I saw my unconscious son, much more when the doctor said my son was going to die," the father said in an interview with the Beijing Times.
The eight-year-old boy was then transferred to the 251 Hospital in Zhangjiakou City when his condition deteriorated. He was declared dead inside the said hospital.
Neighbors of the boy said he been targeted by bullies at school, especially by senior students.
The report didn't say if the 11 schoolmates have been placed in police custody or if charges have been filed.
