Physicist Claims to Have Solved "Knottiest" Mobile Phone Problem

Tangled headphone cords are any mobile phone user's knottiest nightmare.
No matter how carefully its arranged, the cords always seem to tangle the moment you pick it up to use it.
A British physicist claims he's finally found the solution to this conundrum that actually has a mathematical name. It's called "Murphy's Law of String."

Robert Matthews, a physicist from Aston University in Birmingham, England, investigated Murphy's Law of String. And, after an effort involving physics and physical trial and error, Matthews claims he's devised solution that will, hopefully, eliminate Murphy's Law of String.
Working with his students, Matthews came up with the idea of connecting the headphone cords together in two spots.
Three wires have to be connected together near the audio jack and two ear buds while the two ear bud cables farther down the cable also have to be connected.
You can see what this concept looks like in the accompanying illustration.
Matthews said that merely clipping together the two ends of the cords makes the cable less likely to form a knot.
"This was all about using hard science to tackle an everyday issue," he said.
It's a neat solution to a stubborn knotty problem and it works.
You have got to try it out.
