The parents of Mohammed Emwazi, also known as Jihadi John, recognized that the masked, knife-wielding killer in the ISIS video was their son even before authorities identified him publicly.

Ghania Emwazi, the mother of Jihadi John, said she recognized the voice of her son when he first appeared in an ISIS video.

The woman even screamed "that's my son" when she first saw the video showing the beheading of American James Foley.

"The mother recognized the voice and she screamed 'that is my son' while he was talking before beheading the first American hostage," a source familiar with the Kuwaiti investigation said.

Ghania and her husband Jassem, Mohammed's father, watched the video for the second time and agreed that it was their son speaking on the video.

The parent's recognition of Jihadi John took place months before authorities found out that he was Mohammed Emwazi.

Kuwaiti investigators, however, said the parents did not go to the police or security services to tip them off.

The Emwazi family is reportedly in hiding in Kuwait, after returning there from the UK when authorities disclosed Jihadi John's identity.

Jihadi John's father, along with one of his sons, was questioned by the police for most of the day last Sunday.

Sources said the father has been emotional and upset at what had become of his son.

 "I am waiting day-by-day to hear about his death," he reportedly told Kuwaiti investigators.

He said he last had contact with his son in 2012, before Jihadi John traveled to Turkey, telling his parents he was going to Syria to deliver some aid to the war victims in the country.
