Belgium wins against Netherlands to land them 3rd place in Division 2 of the on-going 2014 Federation of International Volleyball Bureau (FIVB) Volleyball World League in Sydney, Australia.

After Belgium's startling 0-3 semi-finals loss to Pool D's winners France Friday, the Belgians finally got their acts together as they went on to defeat the Dutchmen in straight sets 25-17, 25-22, 25-21.

Pool C's winners Belgium was all business at the start of the first set as they quickly got to an 8-4 lead. Gert Van Walle went on a spiking spree and finished the set with a service ace.

The second set held the longest rally of the match as Marten Van Garderen led his team in the spiking arena but due to another unforced error by the Dutchmen, 15th for the match, they ultimately gave the set away.

Smelling victory, the Belgians took the early advantage in the third set 5-2 but Netherlands introduced new player Ewoud Gommans who helped Van Garderen in attacking that tied the game at 12 apiece.

Despite the efforts of Gommans and Van Garderen, the Dutchmen continued to make service errors which ultimately led to their loss.

Belgian attacker Gert Van Walle dominated the net to finish the game with 14 points, 10 points coming from attacks and four points from blocks followed by opposite spiker Pieter Verhees with 13 points.

A late hoorah from Gommans gave him a total of 12 points behind Van Garderen with 13 points to lead the fourth-place Netherlands.

Netherlands lost their semi-finals round to host country Australia also in straight sets 25-23, 25-12, 27-25.

Australia's Thomas Edgar was unstoppable during their semi-finals match against the Netherlands as he led his team with 23 spikes, one block and two service aces with a total of 26 points. Dutchmen team captain Dick Kooy led his team with 16 attack points.
