In an interview for Cosmopolitan magazine, 27-year old Hilary, said that while she does not want to sound bitter because she's totally not, she does not know "if people are meant to be together forever."
Adding that there will always be things that will happen in a long-term relationship that one cannot simply fight. Being married for 20 years she says is an "accomplishment," which probably feels "really great," but there also has to be huge sacrifices. Hilary said that she only wants to "fight for happiness."
Hilary, who first publicly announced that she and Mike are breaking up in January of last year, reminisced and shared that they were extremely in love with each other when they first met. They wanted to settle down, and it seemed like the right choice for her given that she was already working at the young age of 11. While their marriage didn't work out as well as she had hoped, she said that they spent most of their time together happy.
The pair then tied the knot in August of 2010 and welcomed their son Luca, (who wll soon be turning 3 years old this month) in March of 2012.
She told Cosmopolitan that things weren't "working well enough to stay together, but there was still a lot of love involved." And explained that further down the relationship, they simply weren't "the match they used to be."
While she may be finally pulling the plug on her marriage, she shared that she still feels lucky for who her soon-to-be ex-husband is and for the way they both handled the issue.
Duff will soon be appearing in the new series "Younger", alongside Sutton Foster.
