Diagnosed with bile duct cancer, Ramone had been given hospice care after his treatments were found to be unsuccessful.
Born as Thomas Erdelyi in Budapest, his immigration to the U.S. in 1957 with his family helped build his path toward music.
He first established The Ramones with vocalist Jeffrey Hyman (Joey Ramone) and bass player Douglas Colvin (Dee Dee Ramone).
The Ramones debuted their first album in 1976 with Tommy as one of the band's original composers.
The group has also been acknowledged as the core pioneer of the punk rock movement in New York. Their music has been easily distinguished from other genres due to its fast, loud, and upbeat tune.
As they kicked off such style, other bands are also being recognized as leaders in the punk rock genre, such as The Clash and The Sex Pistols, following in their footsteps.
While Ramone developed his music career by committing to the band, he had quit as their drummer in 1978 and was replaced by Marky Ramone. He still returned to the band and co-produced the fourth album, Road to Ruin; Ramone also produced the band's eighth album in 1984, Too Tough to Die.
He was also made a composer, producer, and drummer for other bands, such as the Talking Heads and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The Hall of Fame had referred to The Ramones as a simple, speedy, and no-nonsense band.
Tommy Ramone responded through a statement in which he expressed their band's belief in making a new and different type of music that can help address the gap in rock music.
The other original Ramone members have died between 2001 and 2004.
