II. Sipadan

Sipadan is considered one of the five top diving destinations in the world. It is the only oceanic island in Malaysia, rising 600 meters from the seabed. It is located in the Celebes Sea off the east coast of Sabah, East Malaysia. It was formed by living corals growing on top of an extinct volcanic cone that took thousands of years to develop.

Sipadan is located at the heart of the Indo-Pacific basin, the center of one of the richest marine habitats in the world. More than 3,000 species of fish and hundreds of coral species have been classified in this ecosystem. Sipadan has been rated by many dive journals as one of the top destinations for diving in the world.

The name of Sipadan is legendary in diving circles, conjuring images of patrolling hammerhead sharks, millions of colorful reef fish and dozens of sea turtles swimming peacefully everywhere. The Sipadan Barrier Reef is the largest Barrier Reef in Asia. This is truly one of the last unexplored frontiers on Planet Earth and it's a must-dive place when you come to visit here.

Advantage:

1. The world's most spectacular barracuda in tornado-like formations

2. Diving at night

3. Species of fish and hundreds of coral species under the sea

4. A turtle tomb lies underneath the column of the island, formed by an underwater limestone cave with a labyrinth of tunnels and chambers.

5. Tornado-like Jack fish formations 

Disadvantage:

1. Sipadan is so small that diving is the only thing you can enjoy here.

2. Only 120 visitors are accepted every day after security check.

3. The subterranean flow is turbulent here. So Sipadan is more suitable for Advanced Open Water Diver.

4. There are not many hotels and restaurants on the small island, be sure to book hotels before your visit.
