The company said it will start sending out notices Monday informing the more than 1,000 employees of the casino's impending shutdown.

The crumbling of the casino market in the city has left a quarter of  the entire casino workforce jobless in less than a year.

Reports said that if Trump Plaza closes, Atlantic City could lose one third of its casinos unless a buyer emerges and saves the company.

According to unnamed sources, the company has hired a search team to look for buyers of the property.

Negotiations are reportedly ongoing but so far, no buyers have surfaced.

The casino's top executives and managers said they are reviewing alternatives for the property but that although they have yet to come up with a final decision, the company expects to close shop on or shortly after September 16.

Several casinos have already stopped operations in the Atlantic City while the others are still waiting for potential buyers.

The Atlantic Club  closed its doors in January, Showboat is closing next month and Revel might follow suit if it can't find a buyer soon.

The news is just one of the series of setbacks for the casino market in Atlantic City which has been reeling from the losses not only monetarily but work-wise for the thousands of employees that have already lost their jobs or are about to.

Around 1,600 workers lost their jobs in the Atlantic Club closure while an additional 2,100 employees at Showboat will be left unemployed in August. More than 3,000 workers will be given the pink slip at Revel if the casino is not sold.
