MonkeyParking has suspended its operations in San Francisco due to the city authorities' criticisms.
Rome-based MonkeyParking is a service that helps people in San Francisco buy and sell public parking spaces. It allows people to auction a space they are about to vacate using a smartphone app.

The San Francisco government threatened to fine MonkeyParking and its users. They banned the application and said they wouldn't allow the creation of a "predatory private market for public parking spaces".
In late June, the government prohibited the use of the MonkeyParking app. The company stopped the service while clarifying how it could remain operational.
MonkeyParking received a "cease and desist" letter stating that San Francisco would fine the company US$2,500 for every violation of the order.
The government shut down MoneyParking's operations on July 11.
The company said it will comply with the orders of San Francisco authorities and will be more than glad to fully cooperate.
MonkeyParking is still looking for ways to avoid the improper use of its space service. It continues its operations in Rome.
Meanwhile, two other sell parking space companies - Parkmodo and Sweetch - were also affected by the ruling of San Francisco authorities.
