US-based women rights group Women's Right Without Frontiers released a statement saying that the one-child policy of China is one of the main reasons why pregnant women are travelling to California for maternity hotels in order to give birth in the area.
According to reports, a crackdown was launched just this Tuesday via the joint forces of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement as they raided 20 locations in Southern California that are allegedly conducting maternity tourism businesses.

These hotels help these soon-to-be mothers give birth in the United States so their children will have U.S. citizenship automatically.
These women are being allowed to travel because they are advised to tell authorities that they are only visiting the United States for tourism purposes.
According to the president of the activist group, Reggie Littlejohn, a woman who was caught during the raid last Tuesday confessed that she went to California to avoid the one-child policy of China. She added that is also not a violation of the laws of the United States when foreign women to give birth in the country.
Littlejohn said that women who traveled to the U.S. in the past years to give birth in the area reached thousands already and if the news regarding the recent raid would reach Chinese officials, some pregnant women who are planning to travel to the U.S. might be discouraged as they fear being prosecuted due to the fraud visa applications.
China's new policy stated that parents who are both one child can have two children of their own but will have to secure a permit from authorities.
