The biggest total solar eclipse in Europe since 1999 will enshroud Europe beginning 9:45 a.m. UT (5:45 a.m. Eastern Time) on March 20, Friday, and is expected to disrupt power distribution.
As the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, the solar eclipse will block a massive 98 percent of the sunlight in northern Scotland and 85 percent in London, said The Huffington Post.

Because this eclipse will obstruct so much sunlight, the UK's solar power industry worries it could cause power interruptions throughout the country.
In Germany, solar industry experts estimate that within 30 minutes of the eclipse, solar power production could drop from 17.5 gigawatts to 6.2 GW but later increase to 24.6 GW. This means within 30 minutes, Europe's power system will have to adapt to a load change of -10 GW to +15 GW.
As this eclipse is expected, transmission system operators have spent months preparing for it. The Belgium-based European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity said its plans call for control rooms across Europe to coordinate a response in case of any problems.
The eclipse is being seen by analysts as a "stress test" of Europe's power system that relies heavily on solar power.
Europe is the world leader in solar energy. It accounts for more than 70 GW or some 69 percent of the world's total solar photovoltaic cumulative capacity.
