As the first year anniversary of the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 came on Sunday, an interim report revealed that the battery of the missing plane's locator beacon had expired in December 2012.
The 584-page report, which was done by representatives from Australia, China, and other countries, claims that the MH370 also carried lithium-ion batteries. These weighed up to 221 kilograms and did not undergo any security screening.

Due to this, an investigation on the missing plane was conducted by the International Civil Aviation Organization.
The report was made public on Sunday when the family and friends of the 239 passengers gathered at the Publika mall in Kuala Lumpur and the Lama Temple in Beijing order to remember the incident. The findings by the report might possibly provide a new angle that could help solve the mystery why the flight MH370 changed course an hour after its flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.
The interim report says that although the locator's battery might have continued to operate past the expiration date, the effectiveness decreases. Although it is not the main reason why the plane went missing, it is being seen as a hindrance for the people to be able to locate the aircraft.
Robert Mann, the head of aviation consultant of R. W. Mann & Co. in Port Washington, New York, shares that back in 2010, a plane crash killed two crew members. The accident was due to a fire which originated from the said batteries.
Kelly Wen, a woman who lost her husband in the MH370 incident, said that she and the other Chinese families do not care about the report released. They instead demand that officials on the case should continue searching for the plane or the bodies in the sea.
Australia and other countries have been trying to locate debris of the plane in the Indian ocean for months now. Ships have scanned around 26,000 square kilometers of the ocean floor where the MH370 is believe to be located.
Transport Minister Liow Tion Lai from Malaysia said during the gathering that his heart goes out to the families and loved ones of the people on board the flight MH370.
