China's constructions and expansion in the South China Sea, specifically in the islands disputed by many countries surrounding them, is not a threat to other countries and is lawful and necessary, according to Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi.
During a news conference on Sunday while the annual meeting of parliament was ongoing, Wang said the construction does not threaten, target, or affect other nations. Comparing to no coutnry in particular, he said they are not like others that make illegal constructions in another person's house.

Wang also pointed out that they are building facilities in their own yard so they have every right to do what they want as it is justified.
The statement came days after Vietnam complained that China was disrespecting the sovereignty of their country with the constructions in the Spratly Islands. Satellite images revealed that China expanded reclamation over the island and other neighboring reefs.
Vietnam accused China of violating the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties that was signed back in 2002. Member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations signed the pact to resolve the dispute over the said islands.
U.S. officials also expressed their concern over this issue saying that the expansion of China in the islands would help them control most of the South China Sea. Other countries claiming territory over the islands include Brunei, Malaysia, Philippines, and Taiwan, which have defense ties with the U.S.
China has been trying to win over these countries via improving relationships with them and promising that they will help these countries with their investments such as ports, roads, and other major infrastructures. China also promised to loan money to these countries despite the dispute over the islands in South China Sea.
