Jeff Bauman, the man who lost both his legs in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, and his fiancée, Erin Hurley, welcomed a baby girl into the world on Sunday, reports state.

Bauman was the subject of an iconic, and controversial, photo of the Boston Marathon bombing where he was shown being taken away in a wheelchair after both his legs were blown off. While some claimed that the gruesome photo should not have been shown by the media, others believed that the image was necessary in order to drive home the serious nature of what happened on that fateful day in Boston.

Bauman isn't only known for the photograph, he was also key in helping police to identify the suspects after he described to authorities what one of the two brothers accused of planting the bombs looked like.

But it is perhaps Bauman's resilient nature which draws most of the attention. After suffering the loss of his legs, the 28-year-old was fitted with two prosthetics and pushed himself through a successful rehabilitation.

Just last month, the young man announced that he was able to finally return to his job at Costco, a definite milestone which shows just how far he has come.

Bauman also penned a book titled Stronger, which recounts the 2013 bombing from the point of view of a victim.

Erin Hurley was Bauman's girlfriend at the time of the bombing but the couple soon got engaged and then announced shortly after that they were expecting their first child.

Although memories of that horrific day still haunt the young man, he is living proof of the human ability to find happiness and fulfillment in the aftermath of tragedy.

The reaction to the announcement of the birth of their baby girl has been overwhelming and the couple has seen supportive and positive comments congratulating them on their new bundle of joy.
