Swedish game developer Avalanche Studios announced the "Mad Max" launch date will be Sept. 1 for the North American gamers and Sept. 4 for those in the United Kingdom.

The post-apocalyptic and open world of Mad Max will be available on the PC, as well as the next gen game platforms, PS4 and Xbox One. Unfortunately, Avalanche Studios decided not to push through with a PS3 and Xbox 360 version.

The Mad Max movie series had been the inspiration for many post-apocalyptic games. The only other official Mad Max game that was ever released is from NES, around 25 years ago.

Avalanche is no stranger in creating open-world environments. The game studio is also the developer of another open world games series -- "Just Cause." Avalanche is set to release the third installment of Just Cause later this year.

According to the Mad Max development team, the decision to drop the Xbox 360 and PS4 versions enabled them to create spectacular graphics and will make viewers see the Wasteland in a new light.

The Game Informer interviewed the people in charge of developing the Mad Max game at Avalanche Studios.  You should watch the interview on YouTube.

Included in the interview are some of the scenes and concept arts of the game. In the interview, the Avalanche people admitted they were fans of the Mad Max movies.  

They tried to capture the movie's wasteland environment in the game. Based on the video preview, they did a fine job.

Mad Max was first announced at the E3 convention in 2013 and was thought to launch in 2014. Technical issues forced it to be launched this year instead.

As an added treat, gamers that pre-ordered the "Mad Max" game will receive the Ripper, an upgraded Magnam Opus car.
