A mere six weeks after his controversial release following a five-year period of Taliban captivity in Afghanistan, Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl is reportedly rehabilitated and has returned to active duty.
The move marks the final step in reintegrating Bergdahl back into the U.S. military as a 'normal,' full-duty soldier.

Bergdahl was at the center of a highly-debated prisoner exchange deal where five al-Qa'ida officials held at Guantanamo Bay were returned to Afghanistan in exchange for the 28-year-old American soldier.
Many U.S. politicians have been open in expressing that Bergdahl's freedom may have come at too high a cost, pointing to the exchange as the US negotiating with terrorists.
Although the young soldier has said little about his time in captivity, questions still remain regarding whether or not Bergdahl is a deserter. Many have questioned his conduct, with some former members of his unit claiming that the soldier left of his own volition when he was captured in 2009.
The Army has not leveled charges against Bergdahl, but the possibility of a court martial for desertion is still a very real prospect. Although witnesses reported seeing the soldier walk away from his unit, investigators have not yet been able to prove intent, a key factor in determining if Bergdahl was really deserting his unit.
Whether or not Bergdahl is prepared to reintegrate into society remains to be seen, but reports stating that he refuses to see or communicate with his family have raised more than a few red flags for those who see six weeks of rehabilitation as not enough time for a man who spent half a decade in captivity.
However, returning to active duty does not mean that Bergdahl will have free range to do as he pleases. The young man will continue to be supervised and will share barracks with two other soldiers who will reportedly help him to continue to readjust to life after his release.
