When it comes to handheld games, the Nintendo 3DS comes to mind and its popularity is undisputed. 

In terms of hardware features, the Sony PS Vita has the edge yet the Nintendo 3DS has so far sold more than 45 million units in contrast to the 9 million PS Vita units sold.

The biggest advantage that the Nintendo 3DS has over its competitors are games. Nintendo 3DS has great games mostly exclusive to its platform.

Most of the exclusive games recently released for the Nintendo 3DS are RPGs with interesting storylines or gameplay and classic games that have gone through major upgrades.

The classic game, "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" and "The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds" have been the favorites of 3DS gamers based on scores obtained from Metacritic.

"Super Mario 3D Land" is another classic game that made good use of its iconic character. This is probably the best yet in Super Mario series. Aside from the 3DS platform, this game is also available on the Wii, Gamecube, Nintendo 64, NES, and Super NES.

One 3DS game worth mentioning is "Fire Emblem: Awakening."  It's a strategy role playing game that also includes a compelling gameplay and story line. Despite being released three years ago, the game is still quite popular.

Upcoming and exclusive Nintendo 3DS games coming this month include "Code Name: S.T.E.A.M," which is steam punk-themed game, and "Story of Seasons" that involves farming, raising livestock and starting a family of your own.       

One of the most anticipated 3DS game is a new "Fire Emblem" game but there's not too much known about this upcoming 3DS game. Even the launch date has yet to be announced. Suffice to say this yet to be released game will retain its turn-based strategy RPG style.
