Microsoft is determined to create universal games or apps that will interact smoothly with Xbox One, PC and all other devices running the Windows 10 OS.

This was made clear by Microsoft Video Game Division head Phil Spencer at the Game Developer Conference held last week.
Spencer said it's vital developers reach their target market wherever they are. Making the Xbox One compatible with the new Windows 10 will enable developers to have their games or apps available in every device that runs Microsoft's operating system.
According to Spencer, games being played around the world are segmented due to numerous devices that use them. He told developers who attended the conference they have no link "between the places" that their buyers are playing their games.
To put their message across about cross-play, Microsoft put up a demonstration in which a pair Xbox One players faced off with two Windows PC players in a "#IDARB" game multiplayer match.
Spencer also announced an adapter that will enable Windows PC users to make use of the Xbox One wireles controllers will be released this year.
Microsoft even sponsored GDC sessions that involved cross compatibility between the Xbox One console and Windows 10 PC.
It's understandable why Microsoft is pushing hard for crossover games and apps between its console and Windows 10.
Despite updating and releasing a new Windows operating system, the company is steadily losing its market share. Customers are steadily shifting to mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones instead of traditional computers like desktops and laptops.
While Microsoft does have smartphones and tablets that run on Windows, the mobile device market is currently dominated by operating systems that run Google's Android and Apple's iOS.
Microsoft hopes the Xbox One and Windows 10 crossover will help it regain the customers it lost.
