Former World No. 1 Tiger Woods arrived Saturday, a day early than usual before the start of the British Open at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake, England.

After missing the cut at the Quicken Loans National held in Bethesda, Maryland, Woods said that he was very encouraged with his outcome. This was his first golf tournament after his surgery to repair a pinch nerve located in his back last March.

The 14-time majors' champion Woods missed the U.S. Open at Pinehurst and the British Open will be his first major tournament this year.

This will be the 12th edition of the Open Championship in Royal Liverpool since it started in 1897. Woods is the recent champion of the Open Championship back in 2006 and was his first major title after his father died two months earlier.

When Woods won the title, he cried on his caddie's and then his wife. This year, he has a different caddie and is also divorced.

"My life certainly changed a lot since then," said Woods.

Woods played 12 holes Saturday and a full 18 holes on Sunday. He took a day of rest Monday and resumed Tuesday with another 18 holes.

After eight years of coming back to Hoylake he said that "The golf course is a little bit softer."

Woods also said that after playing three practice games with three different winds, it has "been helpful to see the golf course in different conditions."

His goal in this tournament is to come in at "First."

Jack Nicklaus is the most accomplished professional golfer holding 18 major championships. Woods, now 38, was asked if he will still be playing in his 40s and even early 50s in pursuit of 18 or more major championships.

"Hopefully, I have it done by then," replied
