(Photo : Reuters) Verizon is treating its customers with an OTA update for Samsung Galaxy S5 as all Verizon Galaxy S5 owners will now get a free upgrade to add a few features in their smartphones.
Nexus smartphones and tablets will soon receive the Android 5.1 Lollipop update, said Google recently.
The Android 5.0 Lollipop update released in November 2014 made a lot of improvements but also brought a number of glitches. To remove the bugs, Google released two minor updates for Android 5.0.1 Lollipop for the Nexus 4 and 5. The Nexus 7, 9 and 10 received the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop.

The Android 5.1 Lollipop is intended to replace the two previous minor updates and is said to contain a lot of features.
One major feature of this update involves easy Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connection through the Quick Setting menu. Phone users using multiple SIM card slots no longer need to actually swap the SIM cards.
Phone call quality has also been improved due to the addition of HD voice calls that are only available among Android 5.1 Lollipop devices.
Google has yet to announce the exact date of the release of the Android 5.1 Lollipop update. Those looking forward to the update should check the Android community for update information.
The previous Android updates took more than a week, which may mean Android 5.1 Lollipop update will probably be the same.
There's a way to get the Android 5.1 Lollipop update earlier than the announced launch date by using the Nexus program to search for the update files in Google.
Google didn't include the Silent Mode in the Android 5.1 update, however. The company made no mention of it and it's unlikely they're going to release a Silent Mode patch anytime soon.
Based on past experience, Nexus 7 is possibly the last device to receive the update. It's also likely Android 5.1 Lollipop will be the last major update for a long while.
