Zhejiang University Alumnus Against Appointment of New University President

Alumnus of Zhejiang University published a letter on China's most popular social networking website weibo, against the appointment of Lin Jianhua, president of Chongqing University, as the president of Zhejiang University.

In the public letter, alumnus express their wishes of a better future of Zhejiang University and publicly refuse Lin Jianhua to be the new president. "Zhejiang Univeristy need an academic leader who is both talented and with excellent morals, not some mediocre administrative officer" read the letter.
Lin Jianhua had been working on positions as administrative leader for a long time and once was deputy president of Peking University (PKU). Then in 2010, he was transferred to Chongqing University,. Within two years, he got a lot opposite voices against him in Chongqing University. Chongqing university met a lot of development problems during Lin's tenure. Alumnus of Zhejiang University say that they don't think all the problems should be Lin's responsibility, but he must has some serious problems of his ideas on how to develop the university. This is the first time a different voice is heard on the issue of university president appointment in China.
However, Zhejiang University Alumni Association has denied that they ever released any public letter against the appointment of Lin as their new president. "Many alumnus called the association, saying that they are going to support new president's work to make our university one of the best in the world." the association post on its official weibo account.
58 years old Lin Jianhua was born in Gaomi, Shandong province, the hometown of Nobel Prize winner Mo Yan. He is doctor of science, professor and doctoral supervisor. In 1982, he graduated from PKU with a bachelor degree and in 1986 he got the doctor degree and started teaching in PKU. From 2004 to 2010, he was vice president of PKU.
