In the Grammy Museum's Jane Ortner Education Award Luncheon, important public figures have declared speeches which were about the importance of arts education. Amongst these prominent people are First Lady Michelle Obama and Janelle Monae.
It has come to our attention that around 6 million American school children have not been exposed to any form of music or art classes in their schools. With this, Obama said in her statement that people in Los Angeles have an abundance of riches and that the White House also has a very big platform. However, the public should not forget that there are symphonies, museums and theatres that need to be maintained.

Exhibits and performances should be visited and watched by kids. This will be one way to get artists and performers connect with the youth today. She cut her speech short and ended with, "every arts organization in the country should be embracing the mission of the Grammy Museum."
This event was also made possible in order to honor Janelle Monae and teacher Sunshine Cavalluzzi, from El Dorado High School in California, for their efforts in teaching and mentoring the youth. Monae has always been an active participant in the Grammy Museum's educational missions.
Monae also stated during her speech that music helped her deal with her emotions. She also emphasized that people should keep education through music. She then thanked her fifth grade music teacher and her mother who pushed her to audition in countless talent shows.
Also present in the said event are Recording Academy President and CEO Neil Portnow and Grammy Museum Executive Director Bob Santelli. They both discussed the programs which will be bringing nearly 1, 000 students face- to- face with musicians.
Obama also talked about the workshops and performances in the White House. She has also said that these workshops have caused a lot of young people walk away transformed and with a new sense of purpose and hope.
She closed with this statement: "The arts are a way to channel pain into something meaningful and productive. Every human being needs that, particularly our kids."
