Car Thief Spray-Paints Self To Avoid Arrest; Camouflage Failed - Police

A suspected car thief spray-painted himself black, thinking he could get away from cops.  He was wrong.

Jose Espinoza, 23, was arrested by Madera, California police on Saturday after his plan to camouflage himself failed.  He now faces charges of possession of stolen property and theft of a vehicle.

Espinoza successfully evaded arrest the first time police arrived at his house.  Worried that authorities might be staking out for him, Espinosa returned to his home - this time with black paint sprayed all over his face.  His intention was to disguise himself and not get noticed.  But his plan failed when he tried to hide against a white wall.

The Madera Police Department, which posted a photo of the thief on its Facebook page, said the camouflage was ineffective.

Espinoza was booked into Madera County Jail following his arrest.

His bail was set at $35,000.

Espinoza isn't the only one who resorted to bizarre ways just to avoid arrest.

Just recently, a man from Pennsylvania dropped to the ground and rolled himself into dog waste to avoid being arrested for public drunkenness.  But his ploy didn't work as well and was still taken into custody.

Last month in China's Zhejiang province, a drunk topless woman pulled down her pants during a brawl with police who were attempting to arrest her and her husband.

Onlookers described the scene as hilarious, bizarre and disturbing all together.

Another bizarre case happened during Christmas Eve of 2012, when a shoplifter faked a panic attack to fight arrest in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.  To make her acting believable, the shoplifter forced herself to vomit on a police officer who was trying to arrest her.  But it didn't work either as officers continued to restrain her and was charged with theft.
