Google Play Will Review App Submissions From Now On

Google is bringing humans on board its app review process following several high profile malware attacks focused on Android.
Before today's announcement, Google had fully automated the app review service. This might sound good to a lot of people but it had various issues, including not being able to see some of the newer malware bugs.

Google will still use some automation tools to speed up the review time but humans will review the app for any defects or issues on Android.
This might mean a longer process but Google is confident it will review submissions in a matter of hours, a lot quicker than Apple's review process that can take days to finish.
Apple does use humans for most of the reviews, however, and some executives are involved in approving content that might be seen as offensive material.
The human touch on iOS allows Apple to set up things like Featured, App of the Day, Best Apps of the Year and more events. These featured lists on the Apps Store are said to be tremendous tools for customer engagement, something Google hasn't been able to replicate on its own Google Play store.
Google is also adding localized age-ratings for apps and these will be reviewed by the semi-human review process. Previously, app developers were allowed to slap whatever age-rating they wanted on an app, an odd way of making sure apps unfit for kids were out of harm's way.
