The total number of mobile Internet users in China grew to 843 million, the highest since January 2014.
About 10 percent, or 129 million, of the 1.29 billion mobile users are on the 4G network but experts said the number of 4G users in China is expected to increase this year as the government further lays out high-speed networks across the country.
Wireless Internet subscribers also reached 16.219 million while the penetration rate of mobile phone users reached 65.4 per cent, up 0.4 per cent from the previous year.
As this developed, mobile game publishers are now scrambling to take a bite in China's burgeoning mobile market.
Recently, Elecronic Arts' mobile game publishing arm Chillingo, the leading indie games publisher for mobile, has opened a new office in Shanghai.
The Shanghai branch of Chillingo will be responsible for publishing games across Chinese app stores as well as introducing culture-based games to the global market.
With China's 1.29 billion mobile users, Chillingo said the country represents tremendous growth opportunity for the company and for other developers as well.
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced that number of mobile users in China grew 3.374 million between January and February this year, bringing the total to about 1.29 billion. About 10% of China's mobile users are on the 4G network, it said.
"China has the largest install base of connected mobile devices of any country in the world combined with an avid gaming audience and a dynamic talent pool - a golden opportunity that Chillingo would love to seize," said Chillingo China head of production Mike Chen.
