An apparent drive-by shooting Tuesday night at a corner store in Northern California killed three people, including two women, and hurt four others, the Stockton Police Department said.

Police spokesman Jose Silva said one person was killed on the spot while the two others died while undergoing emergency treatment at a local hospital.
The other four persons who were injured were also rushed to the hospital and were expected to survive, said Silva.
The shooting incident occurred outside the Madison Market, just a few blocks away from the Stockton Arena but Silva has not disclosed the motive of the shooting as of this posting.
No arrest has been made but the Stockton Police Department has already dispatched a team of homicide and gang investigators to the scene.
The area where the shooting occurred was known for gang activity, Silva said. Sources insinuated that the incident could be triggered by gang rivalry but the police have not issued an official statement yet.
The shooting incident was received by the police at about 8:20 p.m. Tuesday, local time.
Witnesses said they heard a burst of gunfire. The police have not established the type of weapon used in the shooting.
About 100 people immediately gathered near the scene after the shooting, asking the police about the identities of the victims to determine if they were family members.
Located some 50 miles south of Sacramento, California, Stockton is a city with about 300,000 residents.
Shooting incidents are not unusual in the area because of the presence of rival gangs.
