Apple in Talks to Bring Discovery and Viacom Channels to Internet TV Service

The original report on Apple's internet TV service said Disney, CBS and 21st Century Fox are all on board, but that might not be the final deal with rumors Viacom and Discovery are both in talks with Cupertino.

This will give Apple over a dozen new channels to add to the growing list that's expected to push past 40 channels. It's not clear if the addition of Viacom and Discovery will add an extra price to the TV service, reportedly priced between $25 and $40 per month.

Even though that adds two prominent faces, Comcast's NBCUniversal is still a no-show. Apple reportedly had a spat with Comcast over the TV service, with Comcast a partner at first.

HBO Now will most likely not be included in the bundle unless it's through an extra for $15 per month. Apple is already marketing HBO Now for the Apple TV so we can't see them wanting to remove the app from the set-top box.

Apple is working to bring the internet TV service to Apple TV, iPad and iPhone. It could revolutionize the way the Apple TV works, offering the TV service as a home page for all other streaming services.

Considering Apple has already sold 20 million of the set-top boxes and has reduced the price to $69.99, it's clear Tim Cook wants customers buying the Apple TV.

It's not like Apple is entering a quiet market since both Sony and Dish Network launched internet TV services in the last few months, which are PlayStation Vue and Sling TV, respectively.

These two services both offer cable TV channels although Sling TV only offers 20 while PlayStation Vue packs up to 84 channels on its 'Elite' package. The costs seem to mimic cable, showing TV broadcasters are not undercutting themselves on the internet.
