Elon Musk Worried the End of Human Driving Approaches

Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk has concerns that once self-driving becomes mainstream, governments will elect to force drivers to embrace the future or be banned from the roads.
Even though the automotive industry will likely disagree, it's a worry that once self-driving becomes safer than human driving, it will simply become a matter of safety to not allow human drivers control of the wheel.

Regulatory offices are currently looking into allowing self-driving cars to be tested in certain areas of the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany. The test driver must always be in control of the wheel in case of emergency, however.
If the tests go well, we could see some countries approve self-driving vehicles by 2018. Google will then be able to sell its self-driving platform or work with automotive companies on an open platform and make revenue through Android Auto.
Tesla already offers a limited self-driving platform on the Model S, essentially a smarter autopilot capable of braking at traffic lights, changing lanes based on navigation and noticing objects on the road.
Musk has confirmed on Twitter he's committed to giving Tesla customers the option of driving and self-driving in the future, and personally prefers the former.
