Several major PC makers openly ridiculed Apple's upcoming 12-inch Retina display MacBook on Twitter.

Lenovo tweeted the new MacBook is "so last year" and posted a picture comparing it with their Yoga 3 Pro that they released in 2014. The MacBook was depicted as a thick laptop at 13.1 mm compared to the Yoga 3 Pro, which is only 12.8 mm.

Lenovo further boasts the Yoga 3 has two USB ports and a much higher resolution display than the MacBook, which only has one USB port. Lenovo, however, failed to mention the Yoga 3 is heavier than the upcoming MacBook.

Dell belittled MacBook's Retina display and showed the superiority of its XPS 13 display that has two million pixels more than the MacBook. The Dell XPS 13 also has a mini DisplayPort, two USB ports and an SD Card reader, which probably explains why it's thicker and heavier than MacBook.

The MacBook is no match for the Asus ZenBook UX305 which has a thinness of a mere 12.3 mm. The ZenBook, however, is still heavier and its basic 13-inch model display has a mere 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution.

Still, the UX305 has three USB ports, an SD Card Reader and a Micro HDMI port. Asus tweets the ZenBook is selling at half of the price of the MacBook.

Asus is also prepared to match the upcoming Apple Watch with its own smartwatch. Asus tweeted last week the launching of the ZenWatch. The retail price of the Asus smartwatch is US$200, which is US$149 cheaper than the basic Apple Watch.

Despite all the criticisms of the new MacBook, it can't be denied Apple still has considerable influence in setting trends.

The first MacBook Air also had one USB port but that didn't stop it from being one of the best selling laptops of its time.
