Korean tech-giant Samsung held a press event in Russia on March 17 and finally announced the launch of its latest offering to the tablet world -- the Galaxy Tab A series and the Galaxy Tab A Plus.

The Galaxy Tab A series comes in two variants, one 8-inch and the other at 9.7-inches. Both feature a 4:3 aspect ratio and a display resolution of 1024 × 768 pixels. Both are also quite thin, with a depth of only 7.5 mm, TabTimes reported.

The Galaxy Tab A, freshly demoed in Russia, sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor (but other sources cite an "unknown Cortex-A53 CPU" as the player, so the possibility for Samsung silicon stays), 1.5 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage, a 5 MP main camera and a 4,200 mAh battery, PhoneArena reported.

Galaxy Tab A Plus includes an S-Pen stylus with the related functionality.

The hardware specs of the Galaxy Tab A include a quad-core 1.2 GHz SoC, 2 GB RAM, 5 MP main camera (2 MP front-facer), 16 GB native storage, and microSD expansion. The pair will offer versions with LTE connectivity and both will arrive running Android Lollipop.

TGF reported the 8-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab A will sell in Russia for around RUB 16,990 to RUB 18,990 (US$287 to US$320)  for the Wi-Fi only version and RUB 20,990 to RUB 22,990 (US$354 to US$388) for the Wi-Fi + LTE version.

The 9.7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab A will sell in Russia for around RUB 20,990 to RUB 22,990 (US$354 to US$388) for the Wi-Fi only version and for around RUB 24,990 and RUB 26,990 (US$420 to US$455) for the Wi-Fi + LTE version.

The tablet could show up on the market in May, with price tags expected to be similar to the current Galaxy Tab 4 tablets (about US$199 to US$349).
