Names have been called in Jake Kasdan’s “Sex Tape,” starring Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel. It has been described as “dull,” “unfunny,” “humorless,” and “non-titillating slog,” to name a few.

The film allowed second collaboration for Diaz and Segel, following the success of their first film together in “Bad Teacher.” While hopes were high that the duo would bring back the same chemistry they had in the 2011 comedy, the on-screen couple failed miserably after all the hype.

The New York Daily News said, Kasdan’s film, “winds up giving us too much talk and too little action.”

The film centers on the life of Jay (Segel) and Annie (Diaz) who found themselves in a routine family life after being married for 10 years. Flashbacks were used in the big portion of the film, showing Annie and Jay as “randy little sex weasels,” who could never get their hands off each other. Then it jumped to 10 years to present time, depicting them as a married couple with two children, living a normal life -- busy raising a family and with little time to spend time in bed like they used to.

When the children were at their grandparents’ house one night, Annie and Jay decided to spice things up in the bedroom. With a bottle of tequila to help them get started, they agreed that it may be best to set things up in their marriage with a sex tape re-enacting every position in a guidebook, “The Joy of Sex.”

With a promise from Jay that he would erase the video altogether in the morning, Annie gave in to her husband and they made love and recorded a three-hour home video on an iPad.

The problem came in when the iPad accidentally got mixed up with other gadgets Jay gave out as gifts to friends the morning after their “joyous sex” night. The film’s storyline begins when Jay and Annie set out on a journey to find the iPad in hopes to prevent the “home sex video” from being watched and distributed for the world to see.

The romantic comedy allows one however, to see Diaz’s very much toned body and Segel’s new look after losing weight. The New York Daily News noted that the on-screen couple has tried really hard to keep the energy going between them, mostly aided by almost stripping down in many scenes. Both Diaz and Segel both showed off their toned body in many rear and side views.

The NYDN pointed out however, that “they have no real romantic chemistry, and mostly weak material to work with.” The web site called the film “felt like a tease, no matter how many dirty words they use — or how many positions they talk about twisting themselves into.”
