A bailiff who visited a house in Detroit to serve an eviction notice instead discovered the bodies of two children inside freezer in a townhouse at 800 St. Aubin block.

The female resident of the house was not at home when the bailiff came, but a resident of the apartment complex alerted him about the woman whom police identified as a woman of interest, said Detroit Police Chief James Craig. However, she is now in police custody, reports WXYZ.com.

What was more interesting about the unit was that the owner had stuffed the corpse of a 14-year-old girl and 11-year-old boy in the freezer. The bodies were inside bags.

Authorities have not yet established the length of time the corpses have been frozen and have not released the identities of the two children or their mother, reports NBC.

Because of the grim discovery, the police placed in protective custody two more living children, aged 11 and 17, of the woman. The two were found in a neighbor's house.

Tori Childs, who lives in the same apartment complex, said the brother and sister who were frozen used to play with her stepchildren and did not show any signs of injuries or any kind of trauma when still alive.

Childs' mother, Carrie McDonald, said that she had spoken to the woman the same morning. She described her as a beautiful person going through some tough times in her life.

AP quotes another neighbor, Shay Wilson, who disclosed that the woman lived in their neighborhood the past 10 years and was unemployed, with frequent money problems, including being behind her rent.

AP said that the investigators are preparing information to present to the Wayne County prosecutor's office for charges.
