Brad and Angelina Offer Support to Troubled 'Transformers' Actor

"Mr. & Mrs. Smith" stars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have tried to "reach out" to fellow actor Shia LaBeouf, who ran into trouble recently because of his drinking problem.

Police arrested LaBeouf for disrupting a performance of "Cabaret" at New York's Studio 54 last month.

The 28-year-old "Transformers" star was escorted out of the theater in handcuffs after shouting obscenities during the show and turning aggressive when asked by security guards to leave the venue.

Police officers at the scene described Shia as drunk and disruptive.

Shia appeared in a Manhattan courtroom, where he was formally charged with harassment, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct. He was released on his own recognizance.

On July 1, Shia's representative dismissed reports that the actor had entered a rehab center, but revealed that he was getting treatment for alcoholism.

Citing information from an insider, OK! Magazine said Brad and Angelina were trying to give Shia a "helping hand."

The report said Pitt and Jolie empathized with people who were trying to fight their inner demons and would like to help them with their battle.

Angelina had been in a similar situation with her struggles with drug use in the past. But the "Original Sin" actress has moved on and is now busy with her advocacies.

Brad and Shia worked together in the upcoming film "Fury." There were reports that Shia, in order to get into his character, pulled out his tooth during shooting and stopped washing.

OK! Magazine said Brad became concerned that Shia's behavior was a sign that the actor was dealing with a deeper issue.

Before the New York incident, Shia had attracted controversy over allegations that he plagiarized another author's work.

He made headlines in February when he launched a Los Angeles art exhibit titled #IAMSORRY, which showed him apologizing for his offenses while wearing a paper bag over his head.

In another incident, LaBeouf attended the premier of the movie "Nymphomaniac" with a paper bag over his head that read "I AM NOT FAMOUS ANYMORE."
