Lamb said was wanted after he reportedly robbed the State Bank of Florence in Wausaukee about 2 pm Tuesday, said Marinette County sheriff Jerry Sauve.
The suspect allegedly fired his handgun inside the bank and then carted away a still unspecified amount of cash before fleeing onboard the vehicle owned by a bank employee.
Less than an hour after the robbery, a 60-year-old man was found dead with gunshot wound on a road east of Wausaukee. Police believed the suspect tried to steal the man's pickup truck but the man resisted, resulting to his death.
Chief Lamb said that at about 5:30 pm, the Wisconsin state trooper spotted the suspect driving in Fond du Luc, prompting the officer to follow the suspect.
The suspect, however, started shooting at the trooper, resulting to a shootout.
Unfortunately, the exchange of gunfire caused the deaths of the two, said Lamb.
"Both the trooper and the suspect were killed in the exchange of gunfire," Chief Lamb said. He said no other suspects were being sought.
The identities of the state trooper, the bank robbery suspect and the truck driver were not immediately disclosed.
