"The Invitation" tells the story of a couple, Will and Eden.  When their son died, Eden mysteriously left Will who had no idea what happened to her.  After two years, Eden returned to Will's life - and she has a new husband.

Eden's personality has changed and invited Will and their friends to a dinner party at their former home.  As dinner party progresses, Will is being confronted by evidence that her ex-wife seems to have a deadly agenda for them.

Karyn Kusama who is the director for the film was interviewed about her thoughts on some of the scenes and insight about the "The Invitation." 

Will, the protagonist of the movie sense something very wrong at the dinner party but when he talks about, he is immediately quieted down by the other dinner guests. 

Kusama explains that the other dinner guests ignored Will's warning because they fear offending the hosts.  Their instincts are probably telling them to leave but they won't because they do not want to be impolite. She said that the film is playing with people's tolerance for weirdness. 

Kusama gave her view on having an interracial couple taking a lead in the film.  She said that they wanted to present a more representative view of how people or at least how people in Los Angeles live.

However, she also said that the casting was more driven by finding the right faces in the film rather than idealism.

Kusama is known for making films with capable female lead actresses such as "Jennifer's Body" and "Girlfight." This time, "The Invitation" focuses on a male protagonist. Kusama admits that she identify with Will because she also gets very anxious at times.  She sees the film as a "metaphor for what the nightmare of anxiety really is."

She said that she feels great when people watch her films and have absorbed some insights on what the movie is trying to convey.
