Sinkhole Swallows Brazilian Bus But Eventually Spits It Out

Climate change has caused extreme weather conditions in Brazil, from months of drought that ended in February with torrential rains that caused floods. The rains continued through March that on Monday, the floods created a very large sinkhole.

Bustle.com reports that the bus, which was in the Brazilian state of Para, had tourists who decided to alight from the bus that was traveling on a dirt road. Para is near the cities of Itaituba and Ruropolis.

Their decision was wise, because heavy flooding of water covered a sinkhole. Their evacuation was prompted by the rear wheel of the bus falling through a dirt bridge and the vehicle becoming stuck in its position, reports News.com.au.

It did not take long for the large sinkhole to swallow the bus down its pit. However, the bus did not remain long inside the hole because the force of the same flood also carried the bus away in its powerful stream. No one knows where the bus eventually ended up.

Some of the tourists managed to film the bus as it was swallowed by the sinkhole.

Prior to the heavy rainfall, Brazil suffered from the drought that more than four million people had to get by with water rations and power cuts. Enterprises also closed. Brazil considered it the most severe drought in its history.

The Brazil incident is not the first. In February, a man and a woman who stepped off a bus in Seoul were pulled under the ground when the footpath opened up.

In China, two men who were traveling in December 2014 in Fujian province managed to stop when a hole appeared. They got off the vehicle before the car flipped over and fell into the hole.
