Network executives gave the pilot of "How I Met Your Dad", the spinoff of "How I Met Your Mother", a thumbs-down earlier this year. However, it seems that CBS is still interested in pursuing the show, despite the initial rejection.

Even though the show's co-creator Carter Bays dismissed talk that the spinoff was going to be redeveloped, CBS chairman Nina Tassler revealed that the network wants to continue having a working relationship with the writers. The spinoff may still be revisited despite a source saying that "How I Met Your Dad" is "definitely dead for now. And nothing further is happening with it at the moment."

According to Tassler, "You make the best decision you can vis a vis casting, relative to the time of year. There's a lot going on during pilot season. And some things about "How I Met Your Dad worked" and some things didn't. We'd love the opportunity to take another shot."

Tassler shared that the network's main concern was the casting of some key roles in the spinoff.

Greta Gerwig, who made her mainstream debut in the comedy "No Strings Attached", was set to be the lead of the series, with Meg Ryan as the voice of her future self.  Aside from Gerwig, the initial cast also included Nicholas D'Agosto, Andrew Santino, Tiya Sircar, Drew Tarver and Anders Holm.

Stressing the importance of casting, Tassler added that shows like the "Big Bang Theory" wouldn't have the following it has if not for its cast. The said show also had to reshoot its pilot episode. She added, "As I've said many, many times, Big Bang would not be Big Bang without having re-done that pilot. I can't imagine Kaley Cuoco not being part of that show."
