Ed Sheeran is now single and back on the market. He and girlfriend of one year Athina Andrelos have decided to call it quits.

The 24-year old British singer confirmed the news and told a radio station in Australia that he is indeed newly single, following the rumors and speculations that he and Athina broke up right after the 2015 BRIT Awards held last month.

During that time, he clarified the rumors and said that he wasn't single and was in a relationship for quite some time. However, he's back on the market now. So what prompted the breakup? Apparently, while they were at a BRIT Awards after-party, they got into a fight which became the catalyst that pushed the couple to end things between them.

An insider told Heat magazine that Athina had had enough of Ed, especially when they were at the after-party and Ed drank too much and failed to deal with a woman who kept pestering them.

So when they drove to the airport the next day, they used that time to discuss their relationship and agreed on taking a break "because it was unfair on both of them."

The insider added that the breakup wasn't caused by his fame but instead by how he failed to deal with other people, especially girls who want to talk to him on their nights out.

When the "Thinking Out Loud" singer was asked about Athina, he seemed surprised and caught off guard, but confirmed the news that they are no longer together.

One of Ed's most famous ex-girlfriends is singer Ellie Goulding. Their relationship was reported to have ended badly because he caught her cheating with One Directon member Niall Horan. His hit song "Don't" is speculated to be about Ellie, though he has never said anything that implicates that she was his inspiration for the track.

Rumors about him and good friend Taylor Swift dating have also been doing their rounds online, though both of them flatly deny them and explain that they are simply friends.
