United Stated President Barrack Obama and The Wire creator David Simon recently met at the White House to talk on the show and its implications on drugs, the government, and the flawed system.

Obama is a huge fan of the HBO Original series The Wire. Created by Simon, the show general centers on a number of wire taps that were aimed at bringing down drug trades and other crimes.

In a microcosmic approach, it held up a looking glass to the lives of all the people in Baltimore who were caught up in "the game" and in the flawed system that they were all born into.

In turn, the show mirrored reality and had valuable points to pick in terms of law enforcement, legislation, and drugs.

During their interview, the two spoke on the boom of drug-related arrests. Majority of the population in jails were starting to become non-violent drug offenders.

Obama then commented on how the show mirrored the real trouble that erupted from these arrests; that when the people served their time, they were rendered useless in societies due to their felony history.

These people would go back to committing crimes and end up in jail again.

Obama also said this was one of the reasons why, when the economy was still recovering, the unemployment rate was increasing. The felony histories were acting like scarlet letter marks on ex-convicts' foreheads.

Simon then pointed out that the war on drugs was doing more harm than good, in that even the families and children who are not directly in the drug game are being affected due to the "war on drugs."

Obama acknowledged that, and has said that people from the left and right side realize that the war is doing more harm than good.

In the end, Obama praised The Wire for being a show that humanized the drug trading in America.

"But if we can start down this path to a more productive way of thinking about drugs and its intersection with law enforcement, twenty years from now we can say to ourselves: 'well, maybe we got a little smarter," Obama said.

He ends that even though the people wouldn't get to that conclusion in one night, the fact that two people are talking about the drug trade in the white house in such a way is a step in the right direction.
