Police in Leavenworth and Atchison, Kansas are still trying to find out how a five-year-old girl died on Friday night, after a shootout between her mother's boyfriend and police officers.
The shootout ended a high-speed chase that now appears to have started from Atchison and ended at a construction site near 20th Street and Metropolitan in Leavenworth.

The girl, identified as Cadence Harris, five, nicknamed Cady, was reportedly abducted by 30-year-old Marcus McGowan, who relatives said was dating the girl's mother Christie Harris.
Cady Harris called McGowan Dad.
It wasn't yet how the reported abduction started, but relatives of McGowan say there wasn't an abduction, and that the girl and her mother lived with McGowan's grandparents in Atchison where the chase started.
Leavenworth Police Chief Patrick Kitchens called the girl's death tragic, and said were still sorting out what exactly happened.
"It is a fairly complicated investigation," Kitchens said, adding that there were still other details and a lot of information they were "trying to sort through."
It appears the girl's mother had gone out of the house and called the police because McGowan had pulled out a gun for reasons still unclear.
At the moment, McGowan was said to have gone out and driven away, taking the five-year-old with him.
Police cars spotted McGowan's vehicle later, and the high-speed chase commenced.
When McGowan stopped at Leavenworth, he was reported to have come out of the vehicle and shot at police.
McGowan was slightly wounded when police fired back, and he is now being treated in a hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Police would not say whether Cadence was found inside or outside the vehicle after the shootout.
Authorities have requested an autopsy to determine how she was killed.
Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) agents have been requested to help in the investigation.
KBI Special Agent in Charge Mark Malick said it did not appear the girl, nor the vehicle she was in, was hit by gunfire from police officers.
Cadence's mother told police that McGowan has a history of domestic violence, and was under the influence of drugs on Friday night when the incident happened.
In 2011, McGowan was convicted twice for domestic battery. Relatives admitted he had previously shown signs of mental instability.
