USA Wins 2014 FIVB Volleyball World League

USA claimed second World League title after they finished-off Brazil in an unbelievable performance at the Nelson Mandela Forum in Florence, Italy.

The Americans have their game faces on as the first set started against nine-time World League champions Brazil with both teams not letting up on their serves taking the set into overtime.

It was a superb exchange of serves and attacks but USA came out two points on top with a 31-29 win of the set.

Brazilians Wallace De Souza and Ricardo Lucarelli joined forces in their hard spikes in the second set that tied the match at one set apiece.

But the dynamic duo of Americans Taylor Sander and Matthew Anderson was simply unstoppable as they walloped their way, contributing 22 attack points apiece, to finish the match with a 31-29, 21-25, 25-20, 25-23 win over the heavily favored Brazilians.

Taylor Sander was hailed the tournament's Most Valuable Player (MVP) who scored 24 points in the match, 22 from attacks and 2 points coming from blocks.

Top blocker for the Americans is David Lee, contributing seven points in the blocking arena said "It's unbelievable, unbelievable - I am lost for words."

Lee also added that their players are young and to have players like Sander is a good sign for the Americans in the future.

The 2014 FIVB World Championships is up next where Brazilians are the defending champions and will be held in Poland late August.

USA coach John Sprew looks ahead at the World Championships and said that winning the World League is a confidence booster. "We have a tough pool but I'm optimistic."

USA does have a tough pool in the World Championships as they would have to go up against, Italy, Iran, France and Belgium at the Krakow Arena in a field of 24 nations battling it out for the covenant title.
